Subaru Rex/Jiangbei Meilu (JJ710/JJ720/JJ7060/JJ7090). 1986–98 (prod. n/a). 3- and 5-door sedan. F/F, F/A, 544 cm³ (I2 OHC), 547, 658, 665, 758 cm³ (I4 OHC). Larger kei car from Subaru, with more modern engines, including three-valve-per-cylinder units. Four-wheel drive from 1987, with supercharger option for two-cylinder engine for 1988. The two-cylinder unit was replaced by the barely larger 0·5-litre four. Canvas top option from 1988; CVT auto from 1989. Exports had 665 and 758 cm³ units. Lengthened bonnet from 1990 after changes in tax regulations, with 0·66-litre four replacing 0·5-litre. Japanese production ended March 1992. Last car to wear Rex badge. Built under licence in China as Jiangbei Meilu by the Jilin Jiangbei Machinery Plant from 1986 to 1998.
