2014 Smart Fortwo.jpg

Smart Fortwo (C453/A453). 2014 to date (prod. n/a). 3-door saloon, 2-door convertible. R/R, 898, 999 cm³ (I3 DOHC), 16·7 kWh electric. Third-generation Fortwo, developed with Renault, with DNA shared with Renault Twingo III. Tridion safety cell claimed to have tested well within Mercedes-Benz, plastic panels still used. Wider and taller, with more boot space. More a two-box car now, rather than a one-box, for pedestrian protection. Five-speed manual standard, six-speed dual-clutch optional, replacing poor gearbox of previous model. Poorer drag coefficient (Cd 0,38) with larger frontal area. Better quality than 451, and engines more refined, though base 1·0 still needed to be worked hard. Handling improved and more stable. Electric model from 2017, adopted EQ sub-brand in 2018 in line with Mercedes-Benz.
