2012 Range Rover.jpg

Range Rover (L405). 2012 to date (prod. n/a). 5-door SUV, 5-door LWB SUV. F/A, 2993 cm³ diesel, 2995 cm³ petrol (V6 DOHC), 4367 cm³ diesel, 5000 cm³ petrol (V8 DOHC). A clean-sheet design, and even more upmarket. Externally, a fussier looking Range Rover, though made simpler, more elegant and more luxurious on the inside. The design was meant to take Range Rover cues and advance them; reaction was mixed at launch. Marketing campaign saw 2012 model alongside 1970 original, connecting the two. Lighter than its predecessor by some 480 kg thanks to monocoque aluminium architecture, and new aluminium suspension and other components. Fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions reduced by a claimed 25 per cent as a result. An inch longer than outgoing model. Terrain Response program could adjust driveline based on what was beneath the car. Plenty of goodies including Hill Descent Control, and other controls for gradient release, hillstarts, stability and traction. LWB from 2013.
