Prince Gloria.jpg

Prince Gloria/Nissan Prince Gloria (S40/W40/S44). 1962–7 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/R, 1862 cm³ (I4 OHV), 1988, 2494 cm³ (I6 OHC). Successful Gloria departs from its Skyline roots with more modern styling, taking inspiration from the Chevrolet Corvair (1960–4). Super 6 added in 1963 with 2·0-litre OHC (G7), the first mass-produced Japanese car with an OHC engine. First Japanese car engine to surpass 100 PS, reaching 105 PS. Grand Gloria 1964, with a claimed 170 km/h. De Dion axle at rear. Plenty of options, including air conditioning. Favoured by the Japanese royal family, who had a fleet of them. Not as successful as the original Gloria. Prince and Nissan merged in 1965, and the Gloria became a Nissan, namely the dual-badged Nissan Prince Gloria.

Manufacturing location: Musashimurayama, Tokyo, Japan

Marque: Prince | Model: Prince Gloria | Predecessor: Prince Gloria (BLSI) | Successor: Nissan Gloria (A30)
