1996 Porsche Boxster.jpg

Porsche Boxster (Typ 986). 1996–2004 (prod. 160,000 approx., incl. 109,213 in Finland). 2-door convertible. M/R, 2480, 2687, 3179 cm³ (F6 DOHC). Extending the traditional Porsche values downward helped save the company, with Boxster a rewarding sports car that outshone its competitors from BMW (Z3) and Mercedes-Benz (SLK). Excellent grip and handling. Water-cooled engine in the rear a change for Porsche. Same bonnet, front wings, headlights and interior as Porsche 911 (996), although the larger car was on the drawing board first. So successful that extra production had to be contracted to Valmet in Finland. Limited-edition 50 Jahre 550 Spyder in 2004 (prod. 1,953).

Manufacturing locations: Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany; Uusikaupunki, Finland

Marque: Porsche | Model: Porsche Boxster | Predecessor: Porsche 968 | Successor: Porsche Boxster (987)
