Opel Kadett. 1965–73 (prod. 2,691,300 approx. incl. Olympia A). 2- and 4-door saloon, 2- and 4-door fastback saloon, 3- and 5-door estate, 2-door coupé. F/R, 993, 997, 1078, 1196 cm³ (I4 OHV), 1492, 1698, 1879 cm³ (I4 CIH). One of Opel’s most successful ranges, available in a plethora of body styles, including two coupés (Kiemencoupé from 1965 to 1970, with C-pillar vents; and Coupé F with a rounded rear window from 1967), and considered superior to Ford Escort Mk I. Twelve-volt electrics. Standard front disc brakes on all but the base model. Dual-circuit brakes from 1967 and servo assistance for disc brakes; facelift later that year, with rear leaf springs replaced by coil springs with trailing arm and Panhard rod. Fastback introduced with facelift. A line of Opel Ascona 1700s were built for the Swiss market based on the Kadett B in 1970. Fastback, Kiemencoupé and five-door estate deleted 1970. The 993 and 1492 cm³ models were for export; South Africa had a Vauxhall-powered 997 cm³ version.
