1978 Oldsmobile Delta 88.jpg

Oldsmobile Delta 88. 1977–85 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 2-door coupé. F/R, 3791 cm³ (V6 OHV), 4340, 4942, 5033, 5737, 6595 cm³ petrol, 5737 cm³ diesel (V8 OHV). Softly sprung, fairly refined, and more sensibly sized B-body sedan and coupé, related closely to the Buick LeSabre (1977–89). Comments for LeSabre largely apply here. The Pontiac 4·9 was only offered for 1979, and there was no turbo model; the Oldsmobile diesel proved less than reliable. The largest 6·6 was offered till 1979 only. Refresh in 1980, with more squared-off roofline. Switched to front-wheel drive after 1985, though the related wagon, the Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser (1977–90) continued in rear-wheel-drive form.
