Retro-themed roadster from Malvern Link, introduced as a downmarket alternative to Plus 4. Similar body, but smaller Ford side-valve engine. Series II in 1955, as there had been a prewar 4-4 built to 1950. Ford OHV engines followed suit from Series III in 1960; Series IV in 1961; Series V in 1963. In 1968, 4/4 1600 was introduced with larger Ford Kent engine, with four-seat body also available. Fiat- and Ford-engined OHC models were launched in 1981 and 1982 respectively, with Ford DOHC 1·8 units (4/4 1800) from 1993 (Zetec from 1993; Duratec from 2006). Sport model with Ford 1·6 DOHC introduced 2009. Hand-made but dated ergonomics, hard ride, poor weather protection, wooden frame—but it has its adherents who love the idea of “traditional” English open-top motoring.
