After the deletion of the Reliant Scimitar GTE and GTC, Peter Boam and John McCauley of BM Industries bought the manufacturing rights for the cars. They approached Kohji Nakauchi, president of Middlebridge, to finance the project, and a factory was set up by 1987 in Beeston, Nottingham. The first cars produced by hand from 1989, after a launch at Earl’s Court in 1988. Difficulties with other parts of the Middlebridge group led to financial difficulties, and the receivers were called in, in 1990. Seventy-seven Middlebridge Scimitars were built, fewer than what had been projected.
