Mercury Comet. 1962–3 (prod. 299,928). 2- and 4-door sedan, 3- and 5-door wagon, 2-door coupé, 2-door convertible. F/R, 144, 170 in³ (I6 OHV), 260 in³ (V8 OHV). Comet gains a Mercury badge and a five-door wagon body style, called Villager, for 1962. Freshened styling, and four-speed gearbox option. Convertibles and Sportster hardtop coupé added in 1963 model year. V8 Cyclone engine also introduced for 1963, with smallest six deleted. Sales slightly down on 1960–1, due to increased competition, but still Mercury’s biggest seller.
