Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse (W204/S204). 2007–14 (prod. 1,000,000 approx. sold to end of 2010). 4-door saloon, 5-door estate. F/R, 1796 cm³ petrol, 2143 cm³ diesel (I4 DOHC), 2496, 2996, 3498 cm³ petrol, 2987 cm³ diesel (V6 DOHC), 6208 cm³ (V8 DOHC). All-new Mercedes compact executive range, with new platform weighted for better handling. Let down by gearchange, but quality appears back up to Mercedes’ traditional high. More angular design—curves seem old-hat in 2007. T-Modell (S204) estates added 2007. V8 AMG model has 6·2-litre V8, the largest for this series, developing 336 kW (457 PS). Avantgarde models have large three-pointed star in centre of grille, a feature once reserved for commercials, untraditional models such as A- and B-Klasse and sports cars. Mid-term facelift, with new interior and stop–start as standard, at the end of 2010; seven-speed automatic for all models with facelift.
