Maserati Quattroporte/Maserati Royale (AM330). 1979–90 (prod. 2,155, incl. 53 Royale). 4-door saloon. F/R, 4136, 4930 cm³ (V8 DOHC). Quattroporte reimagined under de Tomaso ownership, originally presented at Torino in 1976, but production only began three years later. Platform related to that of the De Tomaso Deauville, De Tomaso Longchamp and Maserati Kyalami. Maserati V8 once more, with its origins from the 1950s, with two capacities, the smaller for 260 PS, the larger for 290 PS (and a claimed top speed of 235 km/h). ItalDesign styling, with some connection to the Medici I and II show cars. Sumptuous interior this time with leather and wood, but dated dashboard. Still more expensive than contemporary Jaguars and BMWs, though better value than a Bentley Mulsanne (1980–92). Royale, an even more powerful (300 PS) and luxurious Quattroporte, from December 1986.
