From AutocadeLotus Seven S4 (Type 60). 1970–3 (prod. 600 approx.). Open sports. F/R, 1558 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 1599 cm³ (I4 OHV). Lotus updates the Seven for the 1970s, in an attempt to make the car easier to build (and therefore more profitable). Fibreglass body for the first time—perhaps wise given the beach buggy was in vogue—bolted to the chassis, simpler spaceframe, and more luxuries. New front and rear suspension: double wishbones at front, Watts links at rear. Scuttle and fascia part of the cockpit moulding. Tricky handling, as might be expected from this type of car. Some 1·3s may have been made with the crossflow unit from the Ford Escort Mk I.
