1983 Lincoln Continental Mark VI Pucci Designer Series.jpg

Lincoln Continental Mark VI. 1980–3 (prod. 70,000 approx. incl. Continental for 1980 only). 4-door sedan, 2-door coupé. F/R, 4942, 5750 cm³ (V8 OHV). Downsized at last, and designed to look like its predecessor. Fourteen inches shorter, 800 lb lighter, and with more sensibly sized engines. Larger V8 an option, but only for 1980; Ford offered fuel injection for 4·9, a first for the company on this side of the Atlantic, along with engine management for fuel economy. Four-door offered for the first time in Mark line for decades. Coupé on shorter wheelbase. Panther platform, which was shared with Ford LTD and Mercury Marquis, as well as regular Continental. Underpinnings identical to Continental, which still meant soft ride, though markedly better than before, thanks to smaller size. More gadgets, including push-button entry and trip computer. Signature Series denoted more upscale Marks, while Designer Series—versions named after Cartier, Pucci, Bill Blass, Givenchy and Emilio Pucci—were offered (depending on model year).

Manufacturing location: Wixom, Michigan, USA
