Hyundai Grandeur (현대 그랜저) (LX). 1992–8 (prod. 135,424 sold). 4-door sedan. F/F, 1997 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 2351 cm³ petrol, 2351 cm³ LPG (I4 OHC), 2497, 2972, 3496 cm³ (V6 DOHC), 2972 cm³ petrol, 2972 cm³ LPG (V6 OHC). Well equipped twin to Mitsubishi Debonair (S22), with some minor changes and wider engine range. First Korean production car with driver’s airbag. Electronically controlled suspension as with Mitsubishi. New 2·4 in 1993, 3·5 from 1994. Passenger airbag added later in 1994; 2·5 introduced to replace 2·4 in November. LWB Dynasty model introduced 1996 (q.v.). Side airbags introduced 1997, the first Korean car to have them; front and rear AV systems became an option. Popular with the élite, and with the luxury taxi market. Good ride, though thirsty.
