Honda Accord (CB). 1989–93 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 2-door coupé, 5-door wagon. F/F, 1849, 1997, 2156 cm³ (I4 OHC), 1997 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 1996 cm³ (I5 OHC). Big Accord, practically Honda Legend-sized though kept to under 1,700 mm width (1,695 in this case) for Japanese taxation purposes. Related to Honda Vigor and Ascot of these years, which were upscale versions of this car. Inspire was a four-door hardtop model like Vigor, with a different grille and more Accord-like rear end (q.v.). Ascot was a six-light version of basic Accord. Emphasis on comfort; seemed very large then, less so today with the way cars have grown. Four-wheel steering on some models; five-cylinder unit in Inspire. Voluminous, structured design, highly successful in the US. First conventional station wagon for Accord line, called Aerodeck in some markets. Coupés made in US and exported back to Japan as exclusive high-end models, sometimes with left-hand drive. Inspire spun off into its own line in 1992.
