Ford Thunderbird (Fox). 1980–2 (prod. 288,638). 2-door coupé. F/R, 3273 cm³ (I6 OHV), 3798 cm³ (V6 OHV), 4186, 4942 cm³ (V8 OHV). Thunderbird downsizes again for eighth generation, moving from mid-sized Torino platform to compact (by 1970s’ standards) Fox one, shared with Fairmont. First six offered in T’bird’s history, and car certainly more efficient thanks to the smaller engines and unitary construction. However, the boxy design (reminiscent of the Diamond Jubilee edition of 1978) turned off buyers, as did the second fuel crisis of 1979. Potential collector interest in Silver Anniversary Edition of 1980, commemorating 25 years of the Thunderbird nameplate.
