Booted Escort returns with the new-generation shape, suffering from the same shortcomings as the hatchbacks. Short-lived in Europe as Ford’s hurried revisions saw it absorbed into the Escort range in 1992. However, production of the visually identical Verona began in 1993, with Volkswagen AP engines as part of the ongoing Autolatina joint venture. Production began in Brazil, and shifted to Argentina for its final year.
