Last fling for Laser nameplate, as Ford focused on using its own designs for C segment. Launched December 1998. Closer to Mazda Familia (BJ), sharing more with that model than its predecessor did. Some concessions to Ford’s then-current ‘New Edge’ design theme of that era with front and rear ends, but dynamically well behind C170 Focus. Mid-term facelift in 2001. Sold as Ford Activa in Taiwan, Ford Lynx in Malaysia and the Philippines and Ford Laser Lidea in Japan.
