Ford Laser/Mercury Tracer (BF/KC/KE). 1985–9 (prod. n/a). 3-, 4- and 5-door sedan, 5-door wagon, 2-door convertible. F/F, F/A, 1296, 1324, 1490, 1498, 1587, 1597, 1998 cm³ petrol, 1720 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1597 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Second-generation Laser had more attractive styling, with hatchbacks having unique sheetmetal, while sedan, wagon and convertible were rebadged Mazda Familias. Sedans bore Meteor tag in Australia till they were absorbed into the Laser range in 1987, with the mid-term facelift; the name continued on South African models (Meteor covered separately). Replaced Mercury Lynx in US, with five-door models coming from a Mexican plant, badged Mercury Tracer.
