Ford Freestar (V229). 2004–7 (prod. 246,493 sold in US). 5-door MPV. F/F, 3881, 4195 cm³ (V6 OHV). Renamed Windstar, with four-wheel disc brakes and third row of seats that folded into the floor, and still related to the VN126 Windstar. The improvements weren’t enough, nor was Freestar’s good safety rating, in the face of poor performance and fuel economy, poor handling, and a cabin that was past its sell-by date. Larger engine made little difference as Freestar gained weight. Twinned with Mercury Monterey (2004–7).
