Ford Focus Mk I.jpg

Ford Focus (C170). 1998–2008 (prod. n/a). 3-, 4- and 5-door saloon, 5-door estate. F/F, 1388, 1596, 1796, 1988, 1999, 2261 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 1597 cm³ petrol, 1753 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC). Ground-breaking world car from Ford, sold in most markets except various Oceanic ones. Known for its class-leading handling (thanks in part to multi-link independent rear suspension) and packaging, though interior divided opinions (fresh initially, dated quickly, and not up to Volkswagen Golf IV standards). Startling exterior design, showcasing Ford’s ‘New Edge’ philosophy, setting the template for future models. Comfortable ride, and considered a more complete package than rivals, and successful in most countries. US models got a poor start due to quality issues; European models did far better. Diesels had same capacity but were either from Endura-D or DLD family. Mid-term facelift in Europe in 2001. ST170 and RS sporting models from 2002. European models replaced by C307 in 2004; mid-term facelift for US models for 2005 model year. Built in US till 2007 model year ended; Argentinian models till 2008, including OHC flex-fuel model.
