FSO Polonez Caro/Daewoo–FSO Polonez Caro. 1991–2002 (prod. 1,061,807 incl. earlier Polonez, excl. commercial versions). 5-door saloon, 5-door LWB saloon. F/R, 1398 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 1481, 1598 cm³ (I4 OHV), 1905 cm³ diesel, 1993 cm³ petrol (I4 OHC). Facelifted Polonez, bringing the style out of the 1970s. Upgraded chassis and equipment levels. Peugeot diesel offered, with fuel injection now available on 1·5 and 1·6. Longer wheelbase from 1993 and mechanical and interior improvements; options’ list grew. Rover DOHC engine from 1993 to 1998. Caro Plus from 1997, with new bumpers, dashboard and fuel-injection system, with further improvements, including to ageing OHV engines. Basic model sold 1999–2000, much like 1980, with low level of standard equipment. Last year in 2002, when 83 built—FSO was using up the last shells and chassis.
