A series of nicely styled, if dynamically unrefined, subcompact cars from Daewoo, replacing the Suzuki-based Daewoo Tico. Matiz was the entry-level model for the brand, the cheapest in most GM ranges around the world, especially in China, where it spawned an unapproved copy, the Chery QQ. The bodyshell was based on an ItalDesign show car, but progressively altered, with a reskinned model in 2005 on the same floorpan. A brand-new Matiz appeared in 2009, dubbed the Matiz Creative, with a new GM Gamma platform developed in Korea—though it was still overshadowed by smarter small cars from Japan and Europe. When the Daewoo brand was retired in 2011, the Daewoo Matiz gained its export name for its home market, Chevrolet Spark.
