Citroën Ami (AM). 1961–82 (prod. over 1,840,396). 4-door saloon, 4-door fastback saloon, 2-door coupé, 5-door estate. F/F, 602 cm³ (F2 OHV), 1015 cm³ (F4 OHC). Posh 2CV with a larger engine and rectangular headlamps, but the same set-up beneath with interlinked coil and leading arm suspension. The saloon had an unusual reverse-rake rear window. Amis with more power (26 PS as opposed to 22 PS) were exported to the US from 1963. Estate from November 1964. M28 motor from 1968, generating 35 PS. The original saloon was replaced with a more stylish fastback Ami 8 in 1969, with styling by Heuliez; it also gained front disc brakes later in the year. The Ami 8 estate was released in September 1969, while the Ami Super, with a one-litre engine, appeared in 1973, and was good for 140 km/h. M35 prototypes with a Wankel engine were released to some customers. The Ami’s appearance was updated with the Élysée of 1978–80, a limited-edition model in Argentina. French production ceased 1978, though Argentina continued to 1982, with 48,855 made.
