1982 Chrysler New Yorker.jpg

Chrysler New Yorker (M-body). 1982 (prod. 50,509). 4-door sedan. F/R, 3682 cm³ (I6 OHV), 5210 cm³ (V8 OHV). Chrysler downsized its R-body New Yorker on to the Dodge Aspen and Plymouth Volaré platform—effectively creating a very posh LeBaron. New front and rear ends to distinguish it from LeBaron; fibreglass cap over rear portion of the top, giving a more formal appearance, not dissimilar from previous year’s LeBaron Fifth Avenue package. Wheelbase dropped from R’s 118·5 to 112·7 in, weight went down 144 lb to 3,510 lb, while interior volume also shrunk from 108 to 95 ft³. Better quality and excellent price on launch, with improved equipment levels over 1981. Not as floaty as predecessor, though still geared for comfort. One year only, after which this model became known as the Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenue.
