Mazda RX-7 (FD).jpg

Ẽfini RX-7/Mazda RX-7 (X105/FD3S). 1991–2002 (prod. 68,589). 3-door coupé. F/R, 2 × 654 cm³ Wankel. Slimmed-down RX-7, including twin-turbo developing 255 PS, eventually upped to 280 PS by the end of production. Nicknamed ‘Batmobile’ by some. More expensive than its predecessor, and relatively few built compared to earlier RX-7s. After 1995, with the demise of the Eunos Cosmo, the RX-7 became the only production car in the world with a rotary engine. Savanna tag dropped for the first time in this generation, with FDs sold through Mazda’s new Ẽfini sales’ channel; when the five-channel programme was killed off in 1997, it reverted to the Mazda brand.

Manufacturing location: Hiroshima, Japan

Marque: Ẽfini | Predecessor: Mazda Savanna RX-7 (FC) | Successor: Mazda RX-8
